35 x 35 inch silk bandana botanically dyed with toyon and block printed by hand, making each piece one of a kind. Toyon is a native chaparral (bush) in Southern California, where I mindfully harvested and processed before beginning the dying process.
Rags are large square bandanas, traditionally made of silk, worn by ranchers and cowpokes. They're lightweight, breathable during hot days and warming during cold nights. While traditionally worn by cowboys and cowgirls, they can be worn by anyone for various occasions.
Each bandana is one of kind, botanically dyed with plants and printed with hand carved blocks. The carvings are inspired by ancient stone carvings in Ireland and Scotland, applying ancient symbols with a contemporary twist. Each bandana is not only meant to be worn, but acts as a protective garment.
Small batched botanical dye is non-toxic on your skin, more water efficient and overall leaves a smaller impact on the environment. The nature of using botanical dyes is that fading may occur adding to the element of the piece, aging beautifully with time.
